POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit by a van on the A596 near Workington.
The 54-year-old, who suffered a serious head injury, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle before being transferred to Newcastle's RVI.
Today his condition was described as stable but serious.
The crash, which happened at about 7.30pm on Sunday near Workington Golf Club, involved a silver Renault van travelling towards Workington.
