Well it’s Christmas time once again a season of joyous rapture for many surrounded by family and friends but to others a time of dread.

Social isolation, health issues, together with budget worries and a fear of what the future brings. It’s up to all of us to help in whatever capacity we can, extending the hand of friendship.

2018 brought us some interesting developments and challenges. Changes to the sponsorship at the town’s academy, positive Naval visit to the harbour from our neighbours across the pond in America, and the start of a regeneration scheme to bring about sustained footfall and inward investment to historic Whitehaven..

Looking forward to 2019 with positivity it’s clear that by working with our stakeholders and partners alike, real change can take place for all of us to benefit.

Bringing innovation and change cannot be expedited immediately which in turn can lead to feelings of frustration and negativity.

I share your passion for improving the town and wish to thank you for your continued patience as these ventures come about. Thanks to the staff and members of the Town Council who have been committed during some challenging times and for their ideas and input for the work ahead.

As your Mayor I wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas, and contented and prosperous New Year.
