HOMES are without water after a burst main flooded a road this morning.

Around four inches of water gathered in Muncaster Chase led to residents in Bootle having no water or with low water pressure.

A spokesman for United Utilities said the company was aware of the issue.

He said: "A leak on Muncaster Chase is affecting customers in LA19 and has been spotted and reported to us.

"Our inspector has been to have a look and has found this to be the cause of you having no water or low pressure.

"A team of engineers have been requested and should be on site as soon as possible.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing you and we will update this message once the repairs to the burst water main are underway."

After discussions with United Utilities it has been reported that they are liasing with the police, who have shut the road so that they are able to isolate the mains.

Water and wheel tankers are currently on the way and should be at the site.

Each one has the capacity to hold 27 million litres of water and five of these has been sent.

These will be used to get people back on supply.
