COCKERMOUTH'S mayor had the difficult task of choosing his favourite festive shop window.

Councillor David Malloy and the Chamber of Trade's Ruth Gildert toured the town, checking out the many decorated businesses.

"It was a tough one with so many shops displaying such beautiful windows this year," he said.

The town council prize went to County Fruit Stores, on Station Street. SR Shoes, also Station Street, and The National Trust Shop, Main Street, were highly commended.

The Chamber of Trade winner was Riff Raff, on Main Street, with The Floral Boutique, Market Place, and Bryson's, Main Street, being highly commended.

Fruit store owner Alison Lucock decorated her window, which was a red, white and silver Christmas scene with a tree, Santa, reindeers, snowmen, bells and a lamp.

"It took me two days but I enjoy doing it. It's nice that everyone does their windows for the lights switch on, there are so many lovely windows in town," she said.
