A special memorial service offering people the chance to remember their loved ones at Christmas will take place this month.

Distington Hall Crematorium will host the event on Wednesday, December 19, that will include music, poetry and readings, followed by light refreshments. Guests will also have the opportunity to light a candle or hang a ribbon on the Christmas tree in memory of a loved one.

“This is the first time we’ve held an event at Christmas and it will be a chance for people to remember their loved ones at this special, yet poignant, time of year,” said Carla Christian, a Bereavement Services Officer and the event organiser.

“We know that when a lot of people previously attended a service at the crematorium, it was for a sad occasion. We’re now inviting people of all faiths and none to return to celebrate their loved ones’ lives with a happy and uplifting family service.”

The event begins at 6pm and entry is free.
