YOUNG people from Mirehouse have given a big ‘shout-out’ about the future of their community.
Pupils from St Begh’s School have been taking part in the innovative Connected Communities research project, in which they have carried out surveys, taken photographs and shared ideas about how to bring their community together.
The group, also including two pupils from Whitehaven Academy, have also taken part in litter-picks and poster campaigns.
A celebration Community Shout Out event was held last week in which participants presented the results of their survey to family, friends and community representatives. They also received University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) certificates in recognition of their work, presented by Mike Hawkins, Cumbria county councillor for Mirehouse.
Suzanne Wilson, UCLan’s Research Fellow in Social Inclusion and Community Engagement, said: “I have been overwhelmed with the passion and commitment these young people have shown towards their community.”
