The mother of a profoundly disabled Workington man has paid tribute to him following his death at the age of 23.

Robert Herrington, who lived at Briarfield care home in Stainburn, died on November 16.

His funeral will be held at St Michael's Church in Workington at 10.30am on Tuesday, December 4.

In a tribute, mum Alison Carr also thanked people across Cumbria who helped fund specialist therapy for Robert during his childhood.

She said: "My brave Robert, always smiling.

"Everyone seemed to love him and when we found out there was a treatment that could help him, everyone helped us to raise the money to fund it.

"They were amazing so in 2002 we took him to Advance, which was an intensive programme.

"In six months his posture changed and he began to sit up. Before the treatment he was very floppy.

"We carried on with the treatment for six years but I was told he had to go back to school, which meant we could no longer carry on with the treatment.

"I wish to thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart, who helped my brave son."
