A schoolwear firm has become the latest business to set up at a jobs-spinning industrial park.

Winterbottom’s Schoolwear has become Kingmoor Park Enterprise Zone’s 170th tenant.

And, in a show of faith in the city’s economy, has become the enterprise zone’s first occupier from outside the county, having relocated from Accrington.

The company, which designs, manufactures and supplies schoolwear, says it made the move to Carlisle to ensure an expansion plan that promises to create at least 20 jobs over the next three years.

Its new 25,000sqft warehouse on Kingmoor Park Central will be used for the storage and distribution of specialist products.

Winterbottom’s is a subsidiary company of Lowe Clothing International Limited and currently employs about 25 people in Carlisle and Knaresborough, Yorkshire.

Managing director Jonathan Lowe said: “The site is perfect for our distribution needs and provides ample opportunity for expansion. We are already in talks about purchasing a plot of land to create our own building in readiness for further expansion.”

Kingmoor Park director Neil McIntyre welcomed the arrival and added: “This is not only a really exciting time for Carlisle, but also for Cumbria as we celebrate new

investment.”
