Cumbria Police are appealing for residents to be aware of fraudsters attempting to steal peoples details.
They also advised those with elderly or vulnerable relatives to make sure they don't fall for these scams either.
This has come after a elderly woman from South Cumbria received a call from an individual claiming to be from a national crime department calling to say her money was at risk.
After unwittingly handing over her details she contacted her bank, who reported the incident.
Detective Constable John Robinson said: “We ask that friends and family speak to any older or vulnerable relatives and neighbours to make them aware of these scams.
“If you can’t verify the identity of the caller, we recommend that you do not speak to them.”
