A MULTI- award winning Cumbrian baker has mixed with the best in the world after being selected as a judge at a top food awards ceremony.

Aidan Monks, owner of the Lovingly Artisan bakery and shop in Crook Road, Kendal, jetted off to New York last month to judge in the inaugural US edition of the Tiptree World Bread Awards.

He joined a panel of 36 judges including acclaimed award American bakers Zachary Golper and Peiwen Lee at the Dumbo Loft venue in Brooklyn to sample the hundreds of entries in the 13 award categories.

And the judges are meeting again tomorrow, November 14, before announcing the overall winner at a glittering gala evening at the Landmark on the Park venue in Manhattan in front of an audience of leading figures from the world of food and drink.
