MILLOM School has slammed Ofsted inspectors after the annual review showed a need for improvement.

The staff at the school have protested the decision, describing their 'aggravation' and 'disappointment' at the decision.

The school is now under the close watch of Ofsted after their latest full inspection showed the school required improvement.

The latest report published November 8 showed the school needed improvement across all categories inspected by the education watchdog.

Steve Newell, chairman of the school's governors Governors said "As Chair of Governors I am naturally disappointed with the OFSTED reports overall judgement of our school as requiring improvement.

"Especially given the small proportion of areas where improvement is required and the fact that these have already been recognised by the school and were already work in progress before the Inspection.

"I am pleased that the report does highlight the many strengths in the culture and quality of our school which students, parents and staff all play a part in, which contributes in making Millom School a happy and very positive place to be where students come first."

Ofsted inspectors stood by their decision, they said: "Senior leaders understand where and how the school needs to improve.

"Since the last inspection, they have boosted the progress of pupils with low starting points and secured good management and teaching in English.

"These improvements demonstrate their capacity to overcome the current weaknesses and further improve the standard of education provided at the school."
