EIGHT Copeland roads look set to have their speed limits slashed.
Roads in Whitehaven, Moresby Parks and Low Moresby, Rowrah, Arlecdon, Ravenglass and a section of the A595 will have their limits lowered as part of a wide-ranging review by Cumbria County Council.
Nine proposals were the subject of a public consultation, and only one of the schemes (a reduction on the road from Duddon Bridge to Corney Fell) has been abandoned.
Among those that will be imposed is a 30mph limit through Low Moresby, which lowered from the current 60mph, has been welcomed by residents who campaigned for the reduction amid fears that lives were being put at risk by motorists driving at high speeds.
The following changes have been formally advertised and will be imposed pending approval from councillors:
Whitehaven: A new 30mph limit on Wagon Way (off Bransty Road)
Rowrah: Extend the 30mph limit on a short section of Pasture Road, before the road turns into 60mph zone
Frizington/Arlecdon: Replace the 60mph limit on Waterloo Terrace (around its junction with Skelsceugh Road) with 40mph
Ponsonby: Replace the 60mph limit on a stretch of the A595 (through the New Mill area) to 40mph
Low Moresby: Replace the 60mph limit through the village from its junction with the Howgate roundabout to Constitution Hill (past the Manesty Rise junction) with 30mph
Ravenglass: Replace the 30mph limit on Main Street (including Townfield Close) with 20mph
Muncaster: Replace the 60mph limit on a stretch of the A595 (between the Ravenglass junction and Whinny Bank) to 40mph
Moresby Parks: Replace the 60mph limit in and around Whitehaven Commercial Park with 40mph.
Objections to the plans can be lodged with the council's assistant director of corporate governance, before October 1, to The Courts, Carlisle, CA3 8NA quoting reference KB/4.4,953/15.000946.
