What is the Success Regime?

North Cumbria is one of three areas chosen nationally to take part in the Success Regime.

Announced by the Secretary of State in June 2015, the regime is a national initiative designed to support the most challenged health systems - those with long-term recruitment difficulties; have a history of financial challenges and need to improve services.

Its job is to tackle deep-rooted problems and issues that previous work has not addressed across all of North Cumbria's health organisations.

It will also provide support and challenge and work with them to implement changes, include developing and strengthening leadership to drive patient improvements.

Organisations working together in the regime include: North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust (which runs West Cumberland Hospital and Cumberland Infirmary and is in special measures); Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust (services include community hospitals and mental health); Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (decides what health and hospital services are provided where, six lead GPs make decisions); North West Ambulance Service Trust; Cumbria County Council; Northumbria Healthcare Trust and Newcastle Hospitals Trust.

The Success Regime is chaired by Sir Neil McKay and its medical director is Dr Stephen Singleton. It will aim to produce a single health plan for the whole area.
