The Strands, Netherwasdale, has received a CAMRA's Pub of the Year award.

It is run by Mark and Lesley Corr who had never been to the village before they bought the pub 10 years ago.

Lesley said: "I had been helping a friend to run a nursing agency and enjoyed it so much that I went home and said to my husband, 'we could run a business ourselves!'''

Just several months later, the couple bought The Strands after "falling in love with it on sight''.

Donna Mynett, of the West Cumbria branch of CAMRA, paid tribute to Mark and Lesley.

She said: "This has been a huge team effort. They have been so close, in the past, to receiving this award, having been a finalist on two other occasions. It is certainly third time lucky. They always go that extra mile to make every visitor feel welcome.''

The pub was chosen from over 150 pubs in the CAMRA branch area.
