TOGAS and traditional dancing were the order of the day as Frizington youngsters partied in ancient Greek style.

The event brought teachers, parents and pupils from Years 5 and 6 of Frizington Community Primary School together for a celebration of the ancient civilization's culture.

This included the children making traditional Greek food and learning how to do the country's famous dance.

Everybody linked up, by holding each other's shoulders, for a Greek dance to traditional Greek music in the school's hall.

The children came dressed in ancient Greek outfits, as did some of their parents and the teachers.

There was also a singing and storytelling session which saw stories about the Trojan war - an important event in Greek mythology which has been narrated through many works of Greek literature.

The ancient Greek civilization lasted from the eighth century BC until around 600 AD. The ancient Greeks have had a lasting impact on culture, art, architecture and politics.

The school has hosted a range of events recently from its summer fair to an internet safety day which saw MP Jamie Reed and staff from Google visit to raise online awareness.

Teacher, Angela Airey, said: "The event was a great success with a fantastic attendance and everybody having a good time."
