A criminal who forged a sick note he was given by a doctor has been jailed for a year.
Carlisle Crown Court heard how 47-year-old Anthony Hanley used Tipp-Ex to backdate a document which had been issued legitimately.
Hanley then presented the amended form to the Probation Service, falsely claiming he had a proper reason for missing two community service appointments.
He had previously been ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work - and given a suspended prison sentence - for a drugs-related offence.
But when the forgery was spotted Hanley, of Derwentwater Road, Whitehaven, was brought back to court.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice, and also admitted breaching the original suspended sentence by missing the appointments.
Judge Peter Davies imposed a 12-month prison sentence on Hanley who, the court heard, had scores of offences on his criminal record.
