Landscape painter Miles Gaythwaite has been named as Lowes Court Gallery's artist of the month for November.

The artist specialises in Irish landscapes, old farm buildings, decrepit vehicles, machinery, and farm animals. His Lowes Court exhibition includes a number of West Cumbrian scenes.

The retired teacher has previously exhibited at the gallery before he moved to Northern Ireland.

He ran a series of art classes in Lurgan but finished to concentrate on his own painting.

"The gallery is pleased to welcome back Miles, who last exhibited at Lowes Court some years ago, before he moved to Northern Ireland," said Gareth Harrison, from Lowes Court.

"Miles has had many exhibitions in Ireland, as well as Egremont and California!"

Recently he has expanded to abstract works - most with a religious theme - and his oil painting of the Mournes (Ladies in Red) was voted Best in Show at the Fine Art Trade Guild in England.

The painter has work in private collections throughout the world, including in England, Ireland, America, Canada, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

The gallery, on Main Street, Egremont, will show his paintings throughout November. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 2pm. From November 1, it will also open until 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays.
