The clerk to Whitehaven Town Council has been suspended from his role.
Les Abrahams was suspended following a council staffing meeting on Wednesday. The reason for the decision has not been made public.
Raymond Gill, the town council's mayor, confirmed Mr Abrahams' suspension to The Whitehaven News today and added that he will make a full statement to update the situation following a council meeting on Tuesday evening.
Mr Abrahams was appointed to the £37,000-a-year role in December last year. He is the council's first permanent clerk following its formation in May 2015.
Mr Abrahams said he will release a full statement "in due course".
