Jubilee House is a stunning family home - the estate agent describes it as one of Cockermouth's finest properties - which has been lovingly and carefully transformed to offer high-end luxury and style.

The revamping of the detached house, which dates from 1905, was carried out by Lindsay Woodcock and her husband Matthew who live there with their four children aged from six to 13.

They bought Jubilee House nine years ago and have put it on the market as they are hoping to design and build their own home.

The couple both grew up in Cockermouth and returned after their marriage to be near their parents - and because it is the perfect place to bring up a family, said Lindsay, who works in public relations.

"We fell in love with Jubilee House straightaway and the potential to make this a fabulous family home," she added.

"We loved the fact that it was a stone’s throw from Cockermouth but enjoyed ample parking and lovely enclosed gardens. It also had the period properties we were looking for and bags of space.

"At that time I was also looking for a small space to open up an interiors shop. which I did. We have now converted that space into another family room. It could be turned back into a business premises if someone wanted to."

Jubilee House has lovely period features of decorative coving, moulding and architraves, tiled flooring, fireplaces and sash windows.

It offers three floors of excellent space for a family with two reception rooms - one a large dual-aspect sitting room with wood panelling, engineered wood flooring and fitted cabinets - a dining room, five bedrooms, the master with luxury en-suite bathroom, and another lovely family bathroom.

A utility room and half-landing leading to a split staircase complete the layout.

"Since we've been here we have lovingly renovated and extended the house," Lindsay said;

"Three rooms were knocked into one and extended into one large kitchen diner and snug room with French doors to the garden. This is the perfect room for housing parties and family gatherings.

"We have installed two new bathrooms with freestanding baths and walk-in showers, a dressing room and the house had a conservatory which was cold and unused so we took it down.

"This allowed us to open up the garden and extend out with decking. It’s the perfect sun trap all year round."

As well as this decking, the enclosed back garden is also mainly lawned and with patio seating. At the front of the house is off-road parking for up to five cars.

Lindsay's favourite spot in the house is in the kitchen, which is a fabulous high-spec room with a large dining area, Shaker-style cabinets with complementary quartz work surfaces and integrated appliances.

An island unit also has cabinets with quartz work surfaces and a countertop-mounted gas hob in addition to a gas Afa set in a feature chimney breast.

"I love sitting by the kitchen island next to the Aga on a cold winter’s day, looking out to the views towards Harris Park," said Lindsay.

She also loves the fact that Jubilee House offers the opportunity to live in the middle of town without compromising on house size, gardens or parking.

"And Cockermouth retains traditional charm and all the conveniences of shops, restaurants and bars," she said. "It has great schools, parks and recreational activities.

"I'm really going to miss spending Christmas here. I spend weeks decorating every corner of the house with lights, put up three Christmas trees, and it becomes the perfect home for family gatherings and parties with friends."
