The convenience of the location is superb yet in an area unspoilt by mass tourism but offering some of the most beautiful scenery in the county. The area is both peaceful and less developed than some parts of the Lakes yet the dramatic landscape is all around. The fells of the northern lakes which rise up from Bassenthwaite, Ullswater and Derwentwater include such famous and dramatic fells as Skiddaw and Blencathra. Nearby are the Caldbeck fells with their more gentle grass covered peaks of High Pike and Carrock. Views from Monkhouse Hill are superb with a panoramic vista of some 30 miles over the Eden Valley. The local villages of Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket are just a short distance by car. The location of Monkhouse Hill Lake District Cottages makes it ideally suited for visiting the three centres of Keswick, Penrith and Carlisle and for day trips to the southern lakes, Hadrian's Wall and Southern Scotland. Also not to be forgotten are the beaches of the Solway Firth and West Cumbria, areas noted for their significant birdlife.


Monkhouse Hill Lake District cottages have for over 26 years successfully been providing luxury self catering for couples, families and larger groups, leading the way with innovative changes and offerings to provide the best for all. The 17th century hill farm settlement comprises the original farmhouse, several imaginatively designed converted farm buildings together with recent additions built in 2000, all set around a landscaped courtyard. All the cottages have wide flat screen TV's with DVD players, Bluetooth music players with CD and DAB and access to free high speed WIFI. Most cottages feature one or more of a sauna suite, an outdoor hot tub an indoor spa bath or steam tub. Families will find everything from cots, high chairs and baby baths to boxes of toys, a games room and an outdoor play area. Of note is the complementary use of Cumbria's finest membership only hotel leisure club which is included and available to use, free of charge. A fantastic benefit at the end of an active day exploring our region.

Our clients have always been at the forefront of self-catering provision, providing the very best to maximise customer experience and predicting and gearing up for future trends and expectations. As with any business however there are always further opportunities, such as to increase capacity by creating additional units (subject to planning permission), taking advantage of new booking channels or adapting the product offer to capture new markets.

Monkhouse Hill currently employ 10 staff on a part time basis to assist in cleaning and maintenance, options exist for a new owner to increase or decrease the extent to which they are personally involved in the business.
