ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (BOWES TO CUMBRIAN BORDER) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the County of Durham, to enable carriageway patch repair and road marking works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Friday 15 September 2017 for 4 weeks, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be to close, 24 hours a day, at times during the works, the A66:
(i) westbound carriageway from 550 metres east of Clifton Lane overbridge to 1250 metres east of the Cumbrian Border, a distance of 8850 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;
(ii) westbound entry slip road a Bowes Junction;
(iii) gaps in the central reservation between 550 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge to 1500 metres east of the Cumbrian Border; and
(iv) laybys adjacent to the westbound and eastbound carriageways from 750 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge to 15 metres east of the Cumbrian Border.
During the slip road closure a suitably signed alternative route will be available. It will also be necessary to impose, 24 hours a day, at times during the works, a temporary 50mph, 30mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound and eastbound carriageways from 1500 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge to 150 metres east of the Cumbrian Border, a distance of 11000 metres. The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle.
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A66. The Order comes into force on 14 September 2017 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
