Workington Town look to improve Derwent Park stadium

Upgrading Derwent Park has to become a priority this season insists Workington Town chairman Dave Bowden.
He said ground improvements are firmly on the agenda this season if Town are to have any hopes of progressing up the leagues.
But he admitted it would not be an easy road for the club with limited resources and manpower.
“It is definitely emerging as a key priority, starting this year,” said Bowden. “The ground is not necessarily past its sell-by date yet but we know we have to provide facilities for the future. People now expect a certain level and standards when they come to grounds.
“The ground is causing problems with its upkeep and we have to provide and maintain facilities for supporters and families if we have any ambitions for the future, even going into the next league up. It is something we have to look at.”
Town are looking at ways that works can be funded after dreams of a shared super stadium, with Workington Reds and Workington Comets, mooted back in 2001, fell through.
Town’s Aussie star Jarrad Stack is set to take up the reins at leading Cumberland League side Broughton Red Rose this season.
Stack has been unveiled as their new coach ahead of the start of the new summer season in March, taking over from the departing David Varty.
