Workington Reds boss bemoans lack of 'killer' punch

Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson watched his side slump to a third consecutive defeat at the hands of unbeaten league leaders Guiseley.
Andre Rodrigues da Costa, Jonny Wright and Gareth Arnison had chances, but couldn’t beat Steve Drench in the visitor’s goal.
Losing 2-0, Workington dominated large periods of the first half, and in da Costa had the game’s star player.
It was a marked improvement on the 5-1 drubbing at promotion hopefuls Halifax 48 hours earlier.
Edmondson said: “The reaction was excellent under awful conditions.
“We moved the ball really well, but our final ball was lacking.
“We had opportunities to take the lead, but didn’t take them, and were done on a sucker punch.
“You have to take your chances, but we didn’t do that and it cost us again.
“If we don’t finish the chances we create, we will continue to struggle.
“We now need to pick up points quickly.
“This has been a tough week. We have played three of the best teams in the league, and now they are out of the way, we need to start improving.
“There have been a number of young players coming into the squad, so we must allow time for them to settle in.
“That is no excuse for this loss. We slipped up twice, and it cost us.”
Workington’s fixtures don’t get much easier with a trip to Boston on Saturday.
Reds have never won at York Street in the four outings.
