Workington Comets duo seeded to GB speedway final

Workington Comets riders Richard Lawson and Adam Roynon have both been seeded directly through to the British final.
Lawson and Roynon had both been due to take part in the semi-final at Sheffield along with fellow Comet Kyle Howarth but that meeting was rained off.
With the other semi-final at Rye House also falling victim to the weather and no other suitable re-staging dates before the final on July 30 organisers took the decision to cancel the semi- finals and seed the top 16 averaged riders through to the final.
Lawson and Roynon will come up against the cream of British talent at Wolves Monmore Green stadium.
Lawson said: “I am chuffed to bits and I didn't know what to expect when they were seeding the riders.
“It will be my first time in the final and it will be nice to go to the meeting with no pressure on me. I just want to go there, score some points, pick up some heat wins and make an impact. I am looking forward to it.”
Lawson has not set any targets for the meeting but believes that getting some heat wins against the types of riders in the meeting will give him confidence. He added: “I will take it as it comes but I will be giving it my all. It is good experience for me.
“I have ridden the track a couple of times and have felt I have got to grips with it.
“It is quite tight but I don't mind it and it is definitely one that I don't dislike.”
Although Lawson and Roynon are friends on and off the track the Workington skipper said it is every man for himself on the day of the final. He said: “Adam rides there in the National League so he knows the track well
“We want each other to do well but it is a friendly rivalry on the track.
“Hopefully, some Workington fans will be there to support us and it will be good to get our name out there and Workington Comets name on TV.”
