Workington clothes shop reopening to create new jobs

More than 20 jobs will be created when a popular Workington clothes store reopens later this month.
The new owners of Peacocks, on Murray Road, said they were waiting for the legal process to be completed and hoped to reopen on April 21 or 28.
Peacocks suddenly closed in February, with the loss of 13 jobs, after its parent company went bust.
It was one of 224 stores not included in the firm’s sale to Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
However, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, which is owned by Philip Day, of Brampton, has since bought the Murray Road store. The company negotiated new terms with the landlord.
Steve Simpson, commercial director, said they hoped to employ more than 20 staff, with a mixture of old and new employees.
Mr Simpson, who was born in Cockermouth, said: “We can’t wait to be supplying the Workington public with our products again.”
