MULTI-NATIONAL folk outfit Himmerland will be heading to Egremont next week.

The Denmark-based band appear at the Florence Arts Centre on Sunday October 29 as part of their UK tour.

The band has a global flavour, with members from Poland and Ghana making up the five-piece, known for their exciting blend of roots and world music.

Founder member Eskil Romme, a Danish saxophonist whose influences come from both jazz and folk music, is joined by Ditte Fromseier on violin, Sigurd Hockings on guitar, Andrzej Krezniuk on bass and vocals and Ayi Solomon on percussion.

Romme is now the artistic director of the well-respected Halter Festival and has toured the world in various guises, and now with Himmerland.

Their multicultural line-up has inspired their songwriting and the set-list for this intimate concert, which will include traditional Scandinavian jigs and ballads alongside Eastern European and African influences, to make an unforgettable set of folk and roots tunes to warm up a dark autumnal October night.

Florence’s live music is set to continue throughout November with a line-up of local and visiting bands, including folk duo Chapin- Wickwar (Saturday 11), rock ’n’ roll from Miss Dee ’n’ Mustangz (Sunday 12), Celtic folk act The Black Guards (Saturday 18) and a night of indie from Barrow’s up-and-coming Wolfpeake (Saturday 25).

Tickets for all shows are available from the venue's booking office.
