Ex-Workington Town scholarship prospect Tom Walker has been tipped for a bright future in rugby league after joining Super League Warrington Wolves on a two-and-a-half-year pro deal.
The prop, 16, from Seaton, starred for the highly-successful Cockermouth Titans U16 team last term, and has spent a year on Warrington’s scholarship programme.
Jonty Gorley, Town’s U18 coach, said: “He was a great lad to work with and very mature for his age. Warrington have a lot of kids on their doorstep but have seen something in him.
“If he keeps his great attitude he could see himself at Warrington for a long time. I’ve got to commend what they are doing at Cockermouth. They’re doing a great job.”
Walker will initially travel to Warrington twice a week for training and in time will move to the area and be placed with a local family.
“I always look at the person first, and he’s a well-rounded young man,” said John Bastian, Warrington’s director of youth performance.”
