THE North Lancs Cumbria game which was on and then off, was in fact played on Saturday at Whitehaven.

Wigton won 23-5 and finish the season in fourth place, one lower than last year.

It was St Benedict’s who opened the scoring with an early unconverted try from Christian Wood.

Before the break, however, Wigton had started to get on top and Tane Manihera fought his way over for a try which he converted himself.

Manihera extended the Wigton lead at the start of the second-half with three penalties and victory was wrapped up when Stuart Ward, playing his first senior game of the season, raced in for a try which Manihera converted.

In Cumbria League action, Moresby played their final game of the season at Creighton with the help of three Egremont players and they won it 27-13.

Creighton went in front with a converted try but gradually the West Cumbrians got to grips with the game.

Ian Johnstone got over for a try wide-out to help Moresby into an 9-7 interval lead.

Creighton regained the advantage with a penalty early in the second half before one of the Egremont guests Jude Barton made his presence felt with a well-taken try which Richardson converted.

Although Creighton landed another penalty to make it 13-15, veteran Neil Peet sealed victory for Moresby with two tries, one of which he converted.
