Full-back Luke Scott swept through to score the opening try which Stephen McConnell converted and, although Ryan Barton pulled back three points with a penalty, Whitehaven doubled their tally with a George Suafoa try, again converted by McConnell.

Gary Wroe scored the third try in the second half before Egremont scored a converted try from the last play of the game.

Keswick are the new champions of the Cumbria League after a 19-13 win at Netherhall.

There’s nothing better than winning a League title by clinching it in the back-yard of your nearest rivals and Netherhall look set to finish runners-up.

Gosforth Greengarth ran out 17-11 winners in their League match at home to Creighton.

It was a contest between two well-matched sides with Creighton leading 8-0 at the break with a Dan Greenslade penalty and Matt Rogers try.

Gosforth Greengarth had a fair bit of pressure near the end of the half but knocked-on in good positions.

Greengarth used the stiff breeze to good effect in the second half and were on top for a good spell.

Matthew Whalley surged through four tackles to score the opening try which was converted by David Holmes.

A penalty by Holmes gave them the lead for the first time in the game and he also hit a post with a subsequent kick.

It might have been costly as Greenslade kicked another penalty for Creighton and they led 11-10 but Greengarth’s second try 10 minutes from time left Creighton needing a converted try to win the game.

Gosforth Greengarth won good line-out ball and Matt McGoogan raced round six startled defenders to score under the posts for Holmes to convert.

Despite applying strong pressure in the closing stages, Creighton could not get over past a resolute Greengarth defence.

Cockermouth applied themselves in a difficult game at home to Millom and were disappointed to lose 17-7.

Moresby’s game at BAE Barrow was postponed but the village side are due to visit Millom on Saturday in a re-arranged League game.

The big game is in the Cumbria Plate with Whitehaven hosting Gosforth Greengarth.
