Whitehaven ABC say the show will go on

WHITEHAVEN Amateur Boxing Club is refusing to be floored after around 100 tickets for their biggest ever show were returned.

The tickets were sent back en bloc and the club are now trying hard to sell them ahead of the Thursday, May 3 event, which will kick off the H-Fest live music weekend.

Around 300 of the 500 tickets have been sold for the boxing event, under canvas on Hensingham ARL pitch.

“A show like this is our lifeline and helps us keep going for another 12 months,” said boxing coach Tim Savage. “If not successful it puts us in a dodgy position. We need this club to continue.

“These 100 tickets have become available and we are keen to get rid of them. We want people to start their bank holiday weekend a day early and a tenner a ticket is not bad when there’s a guest speaker plus hopefully 14 bouts.”

The show will definitely go ahead and a host of Whitehaven boxers will be on the bill including Michael Garroway, Matthew Humphries, Dean Laughlin and Joe Graham.

And former WBC world welterweight champion John H Stracey will be the main guest.

Actors from the hit Channel Four TV series Shameless have agreed to attend along with Manchester’s former European lightweight champion John Murray, who will be on hand to sign autographs and mingle with fans.
