Swimmers star at county event

COPELAND swimmers competed well in the recent Cumbria Age Group and County Championships held over three weekends at Whitehaven, Kendal and Carlisle.

The leading girl was 15-year-old Becky Walley who collected 14 Age Group titles out of 15 events, unsurprisingly won Best Girl in her age group and also reached four Open Age County Finals.

Rebecca Wilson competing in her first county competition picked up five 9-year-old titles and 11-year-old Alex Sarah Messenger retained her 400m Freestyle title and also won the 200m Butterfly event.

The boys also featured well with 10-year-old Adam Metcalf winning six titles and Best Boy in his age group, 11-year-old Isaac Hinde retaining his 400m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly titles and 9-year-old Frank Haile winning the 200m Breaststroke event.

Rebecca Wilson also finished runner up in the 9-year-old Best Girl event with 9-year-old Luke Jackson and 15-year-old Scott Bailey finishing third in the Best boy category for their age groups.

The competition finished with the team events and Copeland were runners up in the 9/10 year old Boys Medley, 9/10 Girls Medley, 13/14 Girls Freestyle, Women’s 16/under Freestyle and third place in the 9/10 Boys Freestyle and Men’s Open Freestyle events.
