Scanner takes top Vine prize

THE Vine staged its play-off last Friday. The quarter-finals results were: Tex Houghton 3 Garry Bellard 1; Scanner Bone 3 Lukey 0; John Madine 3 Graeme Todd 0; Des Halbert 3 Darren Bellard 0.
In the semis, Scanner beat Tex 3-2 and John beat Des 3-0, then the best-of-seven final only required six games as Scanner beat John 4-2.
The Vine’s duffers takes place tomorrow (Friday) night with £100 prize money on offer.
Last Thursday was the seventh heat of The Vine’s ladies double entry singles.
Lynn beat Margaret Johnson 2-1 twice to remain unbeaten. The eighth heat is tonight (Thursday).
The sixth heat of The Lion’s double entry singles took place last Thursday.
Both the night’s semis ended 2-1 when John Madine beat Des Halbert and Tom Smith beat Callum Carr. Tom beat John 3-1 in the final. The seventh heat is tonight (Thursday).
Last Friday was the third heat of the Columba Club’s double entry singles.
Both the night’s semis ended 2-1 when both Ian Elsworth and Ian Sharples beat Mike Reid, then Ian Elsworth beat Ian Sharples 3-1 in the final.
The night’s highest start was a 160 by Ian Finn and the highest finish was 146 by Danny McNally. The fourth heat is tomorrow (Friday).
Summer League
IN the top of the table clash between Frizington Vets and the Sun Inn, it was the Vets who won by taking the last doubles leg to win 5-4 and return to the top of the league.
Haven Club move up to second position with a 7-2 victory over the Lowther Parton team. And in the final fixture this week between Frizington White Star and HARLFC, it was a man-of-the-match performance from Martin Rush of the White Star team hitting a 180 and finishing in 17 darts to help his team win 5-4.
Frizington Vets lead the way with 10 points, followed by Haven (8), Sun Inn (8), Marchon (8), White Star (8), HARLFC (2) and Lowther (0).
There will be a league meeting on Monday, August 16 in the Marchon Club at 8pm to carry out the draw for the league singles qualifying round. Teams should bring their entries to the meeting. The cost per entry is £2 per person.
Week 10 fixtures: Marchon V Haven, Lowther V Sun Inn, Vets V HARLFC and White Star have a bye.
