Race abandoned as wind gusts at 40mph

sailingjly26 IT is a long while since racing was abandoned in the middle of a day. Dinghy sailors can handle most conditions but, with the Bassenthwaite forecast of 9mph gusting 40 mph for Sunday afternoon being proved about right, and everyone having capsized at least once before the start, the Race Officer hoisted the signal for all to return to the Club slipways.

Proud heritage

SEASCALE Golf Club was founded in 1893, originally as a nine-hole layout. The course was extended in May 1899 under the guidance of Mr G Lowe of Lytham St Annes Golf Club who was engaged to supervise construction, at a cost of £4 per day, and since that time the basic design of the course has seen little alteration.
