FOR the first time in many years a new name is on the Division 1 trophy as Hall Park took the title from Wyndham Ladies in the final game of the season with the victory over Bigrigg Tigers confirming Hall Park the Copeland Netball League Division 1 champions of 2012.
Hall Park had a hesitant start to the game, mainly due to nerves and pressure, but found their form and settled into a solid passage of play with C Kerry Hodgson, WA Joanne Crowe providing the shooters Lucy Sayle and Lyndsey McVay with the opportunities to slot goals home with aplomb despite the close attentions of Bigrigg’s defenders Hayley Gorman (GD) and Claire Hall (GK).
Although Hall Park held a strong lead 20 – 10 at half-time the Tigers raised their game and GA Vicky Benn had a storming second half landing goals from all over the circle giving her the player of the match award. Final score Hall Park 40 – 26 Bigrigg Tigers.
This year sees 30 years since the commencement Copeland Netball League and the league is hosting celebratory event on Friday, May 25 where current and former players are invited for a night of entertainment and reminiscing.
