First class race develops on Blake Fell
Published at 15:39, Wednesday, 06 February 2008
The 4.5-mile event had checkpoints on Sharp Knott, Blake Fell, Burnbank, and Ousen Fell. There was little more than a dusting of snow on the highest reaches of Blake Fell, which meant that a first class race developed.
The event was the first counter in the host club Cumberland Fell Runners championship for 2008 and was organised by Rob James.
A terrific finish off Ousen Fell saw just 35 seconds separate the first five runners home. Elbra’s Brian Taylor came out on top as he held off, R Madams, Martin Amor (CFR), Des Morris, and Mike Robinson to win his first Blake. Brian’s time was 36 minutes 07 seconds. Pippa Jackson was equally impressive in the ladies category as her time of 39-16 saw her well up the order in 13th place overall. Other ladies to run with great credit in the wintry conditions were, 33rd Hazel Robinson, 41st Julie Carter (CFR) 45th Kate Beaty (CFR) and 49th Kate Cooper (CFR).
