Alternator puts paid to Keith and Jackie’s early progress

AN eventful opening round of the North West Regional Rally Championship ended early for Nick and Heather Stamper after the husband and wife team endured a string of problems including an on-board fire and a collision with a dog.
The animal was unhurt after it was hit in a service area, but the couple’s Subaru Impreza suffered a dented door.
And the pair, from Beckfoot, near Silloth, finally called it quits after stage 13 of the Blackpool-based event.
There was always likely to be a high attrition rate among the 85 starters in such a demanding night and day rally covering over 200 stage and road miles.
But a second West Cumbria Motorsport Club pair, Keith and Jackie Richardson, seeded at number 26 in their Kelton Electrical Escort Cosworth, made impressive early progress.
With just four stages left, the Lamplugh couple lay 19th, but a failed alternator finally put paid to their hopes.
The club is gearing up for the Malcolm Wilson Rally, starting from Cockermouth, in early March. But it will first run a scatter rally on February 20.
Entries are welcome but must come from club members. Annual membership is £12.
