NINETY soccer-mad youngsters took part in the annual Bobby Charlton Soccer Academy during the last week of their summer holidays.

A team of five fully-qualif-ied coaches, who have deliver-ed the camp all over the wor-ld, spent four days at St Bees’ Adams Recreation Ground teaching the enthusiastic youngsters how to improve all aspects of their game.

Georgina Billson, who helped organise the event, said: “It went brilliantly well and all those who took part got a lot out of it.

“The players were aged between six and 14 and were split into five groups for their coaching.

“The mornings were spent on skills, ball control, exercise and other activities, and matches were played in the afternoons.

“The programme that they delivered was the set one that they do all over the world.”

At the end of the week, the top performers in a number of categories were presented with medals and other prizes.

The competition for the overall skills winner was hotly contested with Jake Martin the deserving winner.

The camp was so successful that the next one has already been arranged for summer 2009.
