Stainton volleys Windscale to League Cup triumph

A VOLLEY from Gregg Stainton 10 minutes from the end won the League Cup for Windscale.
For the first 80 minutes, Windscale created slightly more of the attack as the midfield line-up of Luke O’Connor, Scott McCrea, captain Declan Stamper and Ryan McCourt fluidly fought for possession, supporting the attack and protecting the defence.
The defensive team – Dion Barnes, Glenn Riley, Ray Sempill and Matthew Pilkington – let very little past them. However, keeper Lee Jolly did have to pull off a few vital saves.
The strike force of man-of-the-match Luke McCourt and Gregg Stainton had several excellent chances but were either foiled by Celtic defence, their keeper or put shots wide or high.
Ten minutes from time, Windscale secured another corner which, initially Celtic defended well and cleared the ball, but Stainton, lurking on the edge of the box, chested it down and volleyed it into the roof of the net.
