CUMBRIA Storm continued their impressive start to their inaugural season with a double over the Midlands at Barrow’s Craven Park.
The unbeaten Under-15s scored five tries in a 22-10 win while the Under-16s had a tougher challenge in their 22-20 victory.
Kells centre Cameron Seeds maintained his record of touching down in every Academy Scholarship match for the Under-15s, with Liam Hunsdale, Matty While, Liam Kirkbride and Joe Wright also adding tries. Jordan Johnstone kicked one goal.
Greg Howland, Daniel Johnstone, Callum Farrer and Jake Spedding scored Cumbria’s tries, Cole Walker-Taylor booting three goals.
“The Under-16s were 10-0 down and got it back to 10-10 at half-time,” said Cumbria spokesman Dave Farrell. “They finally got to grips with the bad conditions and it was a good win in the end.
“The Under-15s were always in control of their game and led 14-4 at half-time. They can dominate opponents.”
Storm travel to Winlaton RU Club to face the North East in their fourth outing on Saturday week.“They were our first opponents and have no doubt improved in the month or so since we played them, and they are playing at home, so we expect a stern test,” Farrell added.“We are progressing well but finish off with three away games, so it will be interesting to see how we go in them.”
