MAYFIELD School pupils held their own Olympic Sports Day – led by one of the torch relay runners.
Around 100 youngsters took part in nearly 40 events watched by parents and staff at Cumbria Sports Academy, Hensingham.
Shameem Arnold brought along her torch from the Whitehaven relay to lead the parade of pupils before they participated in a mixture of traditional, fun and adapted sports activities.
The pupils were divided into four colours (green won) before competing in the hurdles, long jump, javelin, sprint relays, wheelchair sprints, football skills and obstacle races. Medals were then handed at a presentation.
Stephen Chambers, Mayfield teacher and school games organiser, said: “It all went like clockwork with everyone having a great time. Thanks to the staff at the Academy who helped us out all day.’’
Pupils from the school have also been featured on CFM this week giving sports clues they devised themselves for listeners to answer.
