WATH Brow Hornets under-16s were hosts to Egremont Rangers on Sunday in good conditions albeit on a sticky pitch.
Egremont started in aggressive style culminating is a very strong tackle by Tom Stainton.
The first 10 minutes were evenly matched with both sides making a series of unforced errors.
Brow began to move the ball and a swift movement enabled Charlie Tomlinson to slip the ball to Jack Casey who outran the defence to score from 30 yards, Luke McGarry converting.
Another fine move enabled Casey to score under the posts, again converted.
Aaron Bennett and Curtis Quinn performed well throughout the game and were involved in some stern defence when Egremont’s Patrick Wells broke clear but was pulled up near the line.
Debutant Jake Moore was set free on the right following swift hands from Charlie Tomlinson and Joe Riley and he scored in the corner for an unconverted try to make the score 16-0.
Further Brow pressure resulted in a penalty 10 yards out, following a drop out which did not go 10 yards. Charlie Tomlinson attacked the crowded Egremont defence and slipped the ball to Cole Walker-Taylor, who scored in the corner.
Brow were playing some of their best rugby this season and a swift move across seven pairs of hands enabled Issac Hill to crash over in the corner for an unconverted try.
Despite the score, Egremont’s heads did not go down, with strong running from Jamie Milburn and Mitchell Edwards being a constant feature of the game.
Brow’s Luke McGarry had his best game of the season and was rewarded with a try in the corner following a strong hand off and drive for the line.
Andrew Middleton converted with a magnificent touchline kick on his return to the Brow.
Egremont continued to attack though and Patrick Wells scored and converted to make the final score 30-6.
