LAST Saturday was the seventh Cumberland Fellrunners junior club championship race, the Nannycatch loop.
Held on the juniors home training ground, it was always going to be a popular race. The U8s race was first off at 11am, with Katie Russel winning the girls race in a fine time of 7:40 followed by Zara Newby in 9:20 and Beau Walkinshaw in 9:27. Kyle Anderson kept to his winning form taking the U8 boys first place in 8:03 followed by Max Clements in 8.47 and hot on his heels was Jamie Brannon in 8:48.
Millie Park is in blistering form this season taking another win in the girls U10 race in 6.48 followed by Jemma Atkinson in 7:25, the next three had a real good battle with Jodi Jones taking third spot in 8:39, followed by Nell Barker in 8:50 and Louisa Graham in 8.58.
Wil Jones ran a well judged race and had to sprint hard to the line to take the spoils over Barnaby Walkinshaw in 7:09 and 7:11 respectively. Newcomer Thomas Sloan was a well deserved third in 7:15, followed by Peter Rawlinson in 7:53 and William Butterworth in 7:55
With no U12 girls running it was over to the boys, Joseph Dugdale having another great season finished first in 12:14, Zak Anderson took second place in 13:10 followed by Samuel Graham in 14:24 and Sam Ketchen in 15:36.
With only one U14 girl and boy Tiffany Penfold took the 12 points for the girls in 13:02 and David King for the boys in 11:32.
The U16 and U18 course was a tough one with a stiff climb out of the back off Uldale onto flat fell, looping back down to Nannycatch gate, Joseph Smith was the Victor for the U16’s in 17:46 followed by Philip Jennings in 19:58 and Jamie McGuire in 21:14. William King took first place in the U18’s over his brother Thomas in 15:45 and 16:26 respectively.
A special mention to two newcomers thinking they were coming to a training session, Katie and Jamie Kinnear both decided to give the race a go and both finished well. We’ll have to watch out for these two.
