CUMBRIA Under 13 Girls Squash Team were victorious at the weekend, which resulted in bringing home the inter-county trophy.
Rachel Tang (Workington), Katie Twentyman (Wigton) and Rhianne O’Neill (Whitehaven) comfortably fought off competition from Derbyshire, Suffolk and Northants.
Overall the squad played a total of 29 games between them and only lost five!
Rhianne’s first match was a close call. Athough she lost the first game 16-18, she dug deep using mental toughness techniques she has recently worked on in practice and went on to beat Gabrielle Barton (Derbyshire) 3-1.
Rachel, leading the team, met stiff competition against England’s No 3 Lucy Turnel (Suffolk).
Katie dominated – her toughest match coming against Dionne Willis (Northants).
