Celtic B fight bravely against tough rivals
Last updated at 12:13, Thursday, 05 April 2012
THIS was the first time these two teams, Cockermouth anmd Celtic B Under-11s, had met this season.
Cockermouth, currently in the top three of the division started favourites against the Celtic second string at this age group who are currently bottom.
Cockermouth were quickly onto the attack but it was a Celtic break out that gave us the first goal. Winning the ball in midfield, Sean O’Neil fired a perfect through ball that gave Reuben Butterworth a run on goal. Keeping one step ahead of the chasing defenders, Butterworth hit a great shot that went in at the foot of the post. Cockermouth regrouped and hit back with a well-worked goal. A good run down the touch line followed by a nice cross behind the Celtic defence, gave Alfie Penrice a close range knock-in. Cockermouth were now looking the stronger team, Ryan Cruden having to run out of the Celtic goal on a number of occasions to clear the danger.
Just before half time Cockermouth went 2-1 up thanks to a determined solo effort by Harry Bibby.
Picking the ball up in mid field Bibby crashed through four would be tacklers before firing in a great shot from the edge of the box.
The second half started as the first half had finished with Cockermouth pressing forward.
The Celtic defensive line of Joe Pattinson, Joe Martin and Ben McEndry were under constant bombardment. Sean O’Neil in midfield was having a big game but all were tiring and with just the one substitute there was little respite.
Cockermouth on the other hand had several substitutes who they rotated well and to good effect. Their third goal was scored by Connor Chaldecott who hit a good shot that gave the Celtic keeper no chance.
Under pressure the Celtic defence were now struggling to clear danger with few attacking chances being created for their forwards.
Cockermouth had a number of good chances to extend their lead but failed to take them. They did however get one more goal to round off the match. Attacking on the left McCauley Sharp fired in a cracker at the near post to give Cockermoth the 4-1 victory.
This was a good win for Cockermouth cementing their place at the top end of the table.
Cockermouth’s MOM was Harry Bibby.
On the back of a 10-1 defeated last week, this was a gutsy performance by Celtic ‘B’ as they chase their first victory. Celtic’s MOM was Reuben Butterworth.
Maryport B 1, Whitehaven Amateurs Blues 4 (Will O'Fee 2 James Ennis 2 Keelan Leslie mom).
Whitehaven Amateurs Blues 2 (Will O’Fee 2 +mom), Bransty 0 (Brett Smith mom)
U8: Bransty Yellows v Seaton
BRANSTY dominated the early stages of this game creating plenty chances and the sustained pressure saw Leo Rutherford shoot home the opening goal.
It looked like another Bransty score was on the cards but a breakaway by Seaton saw them level the game against the run of play.
However Bransty kept the pressure on and scored again through Will Heywood but again Seaton levelled to see the teams 2-2 at half time.
The second half saw Bransty go ahead for the 3rd time with Jay Taylor striking home but yet again Seaton quickly replied to make it 3-3.
The game was now finely balanced with both teams having chances but it was Bransty's Daniel Kilshaw that got the killer goal, firing into the bottom corner
Seaton could not muster a fourth equaliser as Bransty went on to win the game with Leo Rutherford notching a hat-trick, Jay Taylor also got his second goal as Bransty eased home 7-3.
