Ten-man Windscales survive lively fixture against Workington

NETHERHALL started their defence with a tough game away at Mirehouse.
Netherhall started the better and took a half-time 1-0 lead. Mirehouse came out stronger in the second half and, with goals from R Smith and a brace from Lofthouse, secured a 3-1 victory.
Windscales had a home fixture against Workington Red House. In an eventful first half for Windscales, Farrer missed a penalty, scored a penalty and got sent off.
However, the hosts held on with 10 men for 55 minutes and won 1-0.
Silloth, the other promoted side, had a tricky home derby against Wigton Harriers.
The outcome was a comfortable 7-2 victory for Silloth with goals from Carr, Trestiany, Muller and four from Hind; the Harriers replied through Johnson and Armstrong.
Both Aspatria and Longtown had home wins against Borough and Warwick Wanderers respectively.
Division One also started with newcomers Hensingham getting an impressive start with a 5-2 home win against St Bees Reserves.
Windscale Reserves had a tricky away tie against Bransty Rangers and they shared eight goals.
Workington Red Star travelled to Whitehaven Miners but couldn’t get a result and lost 1-0 to a Shaw goal.
St Bees had a comfortable 5-2 win at home to Whitehaven AFC Reserves.
The two relegated side didn’t fare too well with Parton United and Cockermouth sharing the spoils 1-1 with goals from Parton’s McGlennan and Cockermouth’s Edmonds.
Frizington WS lost 2-1 at home to Wigton Athletic, Star’s scorer Armfield with Studdolm and Rudd getting Athletic’s goals.
