Soccer Saturday stars help out

TWO stars of Sky Sports’ hugely popular Soccer Saturday show will be the guest speakers at a charity event in Whitehaven Civic Hall next month.
Former Hull City striker Dean Windass and ex-Everton winger Peter Beagrie will star at the gentleman’s evening on Saturday, June 30.
Comedian Lea Roberts is also on the bill, with master of ceremonies Howard Nicholson. There will also be a raffle and auction.
Proceeds from the event will be split between The Alzheimer’s Society, The Finlay Fund and British Polio Society.
Organiser Nick Bragg said: “I have decided it was time I gave something back and did my bit for charity and the three charities have had a profound effect on my life.
“I sadly lost my nanna, Doreeen, a few years ago to Alzheimer’s and I fully understand how this illness can take hold and affect the person and their families too.
“The British Polio Society is a smaller charity but affects as many as 120,000 people in the UK. I lost a great friend, Shaun Hocking, to post-polio syndrome. He was a true gentleman and would have done anything for anyone.
“And The Finlay Fund is a newly-formed charity set up by my friend Dave Coulthard and his partner Michelle, who lost their son Finlay at an early age and set up this charity in his memory. It provides lifesaving equipment for the neo-natal units at hospitals in Whitehaven and Middlesbrough.”
During the afternoon of June 30, there will be a Soccer 7s competition at Whitehaven AFC, along with drinks and a barbecue.
Tickets cost £25 each or £225 for a table of 10 (including pie and pea supper). Mr Bragg is also inviting firms to sponsor or donate to the event. They can contact him on 07746511132 or nicholasbragg1984@gmail.com.
