Shilts lends a hand

LEGENDARY England goalkeeper Peter Shilton has been in the area to help the cause of amateur soccer.
The man who holds the record number of caps for England and won the European Cup with Nottingham Forest was guest speaker at Moor Row FC’s inaugural sportsman’s dinner last Friday.
The club’s capture of ‘Shilts’ has boosted funds for its changing room project.
Though the night netted well over £1,200 there’s still a long way to go before work can start on building a new change room for Moor Row’s up and coming youth teams.
Club official Ian Pattinson said: “The night was a great success but could never have been possible with the raffle prize donations and the companies who sponsored tables along with the football clubs who gave prizes for the auction.”
Ian extended thanks to the Ewe & Lamb public house, PCMS Engineering, O’Connor Fencing, Harsco, Kier, Whitehaven Miners’ FC, Spar (Bigrigg), Blacksmiths restaurant (Bigrigg), Plaza Cinema, Falcon Club, Elite Auto Care & MOT Centre in Egremont, Sue Ellen’s bakery (Moor Row), Moor Row Working Men’s Club, Rullion Engineering, Manchester United Foundation, Everton FC, Wolves FC and Birmingham FC.
Side-comedy splitting comedy on the evening came from Mark Langley while Howard Nicholson weighted in with his own special brand of humour as master of ceremonies.
