NETHERHALL could clinch an eighth Tesco Cumberland Premiership title at Mirehouse on Wednesday.
The Maryport side need just a draw to make their top position unassailable by chasing Aspatria.
Aspatria stayed in the hunt with a 3-2 win at Borough on Saturday but remain six points behind Netherhall.
With the lighter nights teams have been playing matches midweek.
The first midweek fixtures of the back end of the season saw three league games and two cup games.
Netherhall saw of the challenge of Mirehouse in the JJ’s Club Whitehaven Cup as Chris Dawes and Andrew Laws both netted.
Cleator Moor Celtic went to Bransty and came away 5-3 winners thanks to strikes from Gregg Stainton, Tom Mahone, Liam Johnston (2) and Reece Little with an absolute cracker.
The game slipped away from Bransty after they had been reduced to 10 men – rather harshly some people felt.
In midweek league action there was a 4-0 victory for Whitehaven AFC at Parton Utd, Mark Rothery, Ricky McGrady and Kyle Jenkins (2) hitting the goals.
Also in division one there was a 2-1 win for St Bees at Whitehaven Miners with Matthew Metcalfe and John Ennis netting for the Saints.
In the premiership there was a 2-1 win for Carlisle City over Longtown. Dan Hughes scored for the home side while Dan Gardner and David Campbell replied for City.
Saturday’s matches saw the line-up for the JJ’s Club Whitehaven Cup final sorted out.
Cleator Moor Celtic locked horns with Windscale in one semi while Netherhall went head to head with Wigton Harriers, the cup holders.
Netherhall took the lead as Karl Fillingham netted but Harriers hit back before half time through Mike Riding.
Riding hit another and Johnny Studholme also netted as Harriers went on to win 3-1.
Netherhall manager Billy Gilmour said his side looked tired and that Wigton deserved their victory.
Cleator Moor Celtic saw of Windscale in the other semi with a 4-2 scoreline.
Micheal Farrer and Ryan Fitzwilliam netted for the visitors but Celtic’s Gregg Stainton, Jordon Little (2) and Gareth Evans scored for the green and whites.
