Netherhall secure the Premier League title

NETHERHALL lifted the Tesco Premier League championship for a record eighth time after a 4-0 victory at Mirehouse last Wednesday night.

Other results last Wednesday saw Aspatria go down 6-3 at home to Wigton Harriers as Mike Riding hit a hat-trick and Lee Coulthard hit two and Ryan Albeck the other.

Darrel Creighton, Steven Rudd and Malcom Graham hit the consolations for the home side.

St Bees and Whitehaven AFC brought their game forward and it was the Saints that took full advantage as John Ennis hit three and Stuart Lofthouse netted for Whitehaven as it ended 3-1 to St Bees.

Parton United played host to Bransty Rangers and it was the visitors that took all three points as Ashley Thursby netted for United but Ryan Cornish hit three with Mark Callum and Dean Irvin also netting to give Bransty a 5-1 win.

Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves are on a bit of a roll at the moment, and knocked Warwick Wanderers out of the Focsa Ken Glover Memorial Shield on Wednesday as Tom Mahone, Gareth Evans and Darren Johnston all netted to set up a semi-final with Wigton Harriers on Saturday.

They continues their roll to knock Wigton out through strikes from Ryan Hall and Reece Little.

League action on Saturday saw Mirehouse bounce back with a 2-0 win at Frizington White Star. Carl Lofthouse and Jordon Preistley netted.

The West Cumbria Scaffolding Divisional Cup Final will be between Windscale and Wigton Athletic.

Windscale look set to lift the Tesco Division One title and, after seeing of Silloth, they will contest the Divisional Cup final.

Andrew McDonald hit two with Micheal Farrere and Dan Rowland also chipping in as Andy Hind hit two for the seasiders and Andy Hardman hit the other as it finished 4-3 to Windscale.

The following cup final dates have been announced: May 4 (2pm kick-off at Cleator Moor Celtic), Benevolent Cup – Aspatria v Netherhall; May 7 (2pm kick-off at Whitehaven Amateurs), Whitehaven Cup – Cleator Moor Celtic v Wigton Harriers; May 12 (2pm kick-off at Whitehaven Amateurs), Divisional Cup – Windscale v Wigton Athletic; May 19 (2pm kick-off at Cleator Moor Celtic), Conway Cup – Brough/Netherhall v Cleator Moor Celtic/Silloth; May 26 (2pm at Whitehaven Amateurs), Ken Glover Memorial Shield – Silloth/Netherhall v Cleator Moor Celtic.

In the Wearside League, Cleator Moor Celtic travelled to Redcar missing seven first team regulars.

At the back, Jordan Little and Tom Mahone were mightily impressive alongside the ever dependable and solid Corkhill.

The two 16-year-olds put in a performance beyond their young years, so much so that Mahone’s opponent was taken off on 70 minutes.

Young Bradley Rooney, who could be classed as a regular since his return from his knee injury, used the ball well and worked hard for the side.

Darren Little on the other side was causing problems down Redcar’s left flank with some neat and tidy wing play and provided two or three quality crosses into the box.

Liam Johnston, another teenager from the reserves, never looked out of place playing up with the experienced Mike Dickinson.

However, Redcar ran out 2-0 winners.

Celtic have an immediate chance for revenge on Saturday when they host Redcar (2.30pm kick-off) and on Wednesday they go to Ryhope for their last away game of the season.
