Draw moves Celtic up to sixth

CELTIC travelled to Silksworth with a much changed side in order to rest some players for the cup.

They should have came home with three points, a mistake by Craig Divine gave Silksworth the lead on 15 mins, but Celtic dominated for large periods of the game but couldn’t find the net.

The goal finally came in the 80th minute, player manager Matt Henney’s angled strike bounced back off the post for Dean Rogers to poke home from a yard out, a typical poacher’s goal by the little front man. Celtic moved up a place to 6th with games in hand.

Ashbroke Belford House 3, Cleator Moor Celtic 1

THIS Monkwearmouth Cup tie has been a few months in the making and the end result did not favour the hoops.

Matt rested players on Wednesday but in the end it did not have the effect he had hoped for as the game unfolded.

The hoops started brightly and things looked good, Ryan Hall was brought down for a pen but Hall dusted himself down and took it himself, but his penalty was saved by the keeper, and several chances were wasted after that.

Hall did make amends for his miss as he struck the only goal of the first half, Celtic went in at half time looking good and one might assume the crack was much of the same in the second half but if it was it never happened. Matt said he felt they did not play to the game plan and it cost them

Celtic were a different outfit second to the ball not putting Ashbroke under pressure and in the end it proved costly.

Dan McDermott was wrongly accused of giving away a penalty and booked in the meantime but Ashbroke converted to draw level and that’s when things went totally wrong for the Celtic.

Despite the efforts of keeper Divine – who was awarded man of the match by the ref – Celtic conceded another two and it’s Ashbroke who move on to the semis on Saturday. As for the hoops they are at home to Willington in the League, kick off 2.30pm.
